Comscore and VIZIO’s Inscape Expand Partnership to Enhance Smart TV Measurement

Measurement Innovation Includes Advanced Audience Deduplication, Real-Time Insights, and a Comprehensive View of Performance Across Devices

Comscore (NASDAQ: SCOR), a trusted partner for planning, transacting, and evaluating media across platforms, today announced the renewal and expansion of its long-term partnership with VIZIO’s Inscape (NYSE: VZIO), a leading provider of currency-grade smart TV data.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the ongoing relationship between Comscore and Inscape, which began in 2018, to integrate its automatic content recognition (ACR) TV data into Comscore’s MRC-accredited TV product.

Since that time, Comscore and Inscape have worked closely to enhance TV measurement through data and product integrations. Comscore has incorporated Inscape’s smart TV viewership data into their measurement and ratings offerings.

These integrations have helped Comscore clients to gain deeper insights into viewer behaviors, leading to better decision-making across the broad media ecosystem and, ultimately, more effective advertising strategies. With this latest renewal and expansion, Comscore will continue to leverage Inscape’s extensive data across all 210 local markets.

As part of this integration of Inscape data, Comscore has developed intellectual property, including a patent-pending method, to deduplicate data from smart TVs and set-top boxes. This method provides more accurate audience measurement by ensuring that viewership is not counted twice. This innovation marks a significant advancement in TV measurement, allowing Comscore to offer a more granular and precise understanding of audience behaviors across different devices.

Ken Norcross, Vice President of Data Licensing and Strategy at Vizio/Inscape, said, “Our continued collaboration with Comscore underscores the demand for Inscape’s robust ACR TV data combined with Comscore’s MRC-accredited media measurement of television viewership. By leveraging Inscape data from over 24 million opted-in devices annually, Comscore continues to set new standards in TV audience measurement, providing the industry with critical insights into viewing behaviors.”

Comscore TV now benefits from additional data sources, including smart TV data. This integration provides Comscore with unique viewership data not captured through direct relationships with multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs) and virtual MVPDs (vMVPDs). Including Inscape data strengthens Comscore’s measurement coverage, offering a more complete picture of television consumption across the U.S.

David Algranati, Comscore’s Chief Innovation Officer, commented, “The integration of Inscape’s smart TV data not only enhances our TV measurement capabilities but also lays the groundwork for future advancements in cross-channel audience insights. This partnership will promote a better understanding of ad exposure and content engagement in a rapidly evolving media landscape. For Comscore, having multiple sources of data capture is a key component of our TV measurement approach, which spans across all 210 local markets.”
